About Us

En-case Orkney is the leatherwork business of artist, Emma Ainsley

I am a trained artist, having graduated from Chelsea Art College in 1998, and my practice follows dual lines of textile-based sculpture and leather case-making - these lines converge and overlap both in terms of material and concept, as my art investigates the body as vessel and my craft creates the hollow forms, containers, vessels that are cases.

In working with leather, I craft pieces with the traditional basic tools and techniques used through the centuries; drawing my inspiration both from the material itself and from the ever-changing colours and forms of the Orkney landscape

I work with undyed hide, preferring to dye all pieces myself - this allows me to work with the unique nature of each leather hide as I create the forms of my cases. In this way all En-case Orkney pieces are unique works of art at the same time as being strong and practical cases. Truly things of beauty in which to put your stuff.

I also make bespoke cases to order - one-off hand crafted pieces. Do contact me if you have something precious that needs en-casing.
